Ideas

Mission: To promote free and respectful exchange of ideas and solutions for our planet, critical thinking, and peer-to-peer learning among youth.

Next to sunlight, ideas may be our greatest resource because they are virtually limitless. But good ideas don’t do anyone any good unless they spread.

That is why we are proud to launch our very own Ideas Bank – to help youth around the world exchange great ideas, and promote the best solutions for our planet.

We invite you to browse the Ideas Bank and contribute your own.

They don’t have to be your ideas. They just have to be good. They have to work. They should address global challenges and lead to positive change. Most importantly, they should inspire you to take action.

If you’ve come across an idea that has all those qualities, then send it to us. Read the guidelines below and check out one of the ideas to see the type of information we need from you.

We will read all submitted ideas and post the ones that meet our guidelines.

We welcome your contribution!

Ideas Bank Guidelines

Great ideas are hard to come by, and harder to define. What’s more, seemingly good ideas can turn out to be bad, and vice versa. So we hesitate to enforce any hard and fast rules.

But for our purposes – for what we’re trying to achieve at Global Youth Fund – we would like to offer the following guidelines:

1) Focus on solutions, not organizations or individuals.
There are many online directories of non-profits and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). We do not want to create another one. We’re interested in what those organizations are doing to create positive change, especially if they are youth-led. Do they mentor youth, promote literacy, build schools, Dig wells in remote African villages, Employ street kids? Those are solutions.

2) Ideas should be scalable.
One size doesn’t fit all but a good idea should be able to work in many places. If yours doesn’t, could it be too local?

3) They should address a global challenge.
We’re interested in ideas that help us solve our planet’s many challenges (e.g., extreme poverty, climate change, sustainability, war and peace, etc.). If your ideas need a home with a broader focus, you might consider sending them to The Global Ideas Bank instead.

4) Ideas should work.
There should be some evidence that the idea you submit works.

5) Be as specific as possible.
Instead of saying “save rainforests,” focus on the specific actions that one would take to accomplish that. For example, “buy land for conservation.”

6) Relevant to youth.
What can youth do to help implement your idea or solution? Could they start a similar project in their community or take action to bring about change?  If there’s no meaningful way for youth to get involved, it might not be appropriate for our Ideas Bank.

Your idea doesn’t have to be original. But it should inspire you and make you want to get involved.

We look forward to your contribution!
